The Gift of the Animagi

Sirius Black frowned. “My necklace chain just snapped,” he said sadly. It was his favorite necklace and he wore it everywhere. It had once belonged to his uncle, the first good thin that had come out of the Black family, kiss necklace even fit when he was in his dog form.
Remus Lupin put his arms around Sirius, who was very distraught. “Do not be so worried, my love, we can always get a new string for it.”
“Money doesn’t grow on trees,” Sirius said. After school, they had moved in together, and, since Remus couldn’t find a job they had to live off Sirius’ small income.
“Keep it somewhere safe and when we have enough, we’ll get a new string,” Remus said.
Sirius kissed Remus. “Okay,” he said.

The two men were walking, hand-in-hand, to drop Sirius off at work, when Remus stopped and peered into a store window. “Oh Sirius, look, new robes! What I wouldn’t give for some NEW robes!”
Sirius smiled at the child-like expression on Remus’ face.
“Maybe someday we’ll be able to afford fineries.”
“Well, I would at least want those buttons for my good robes.” Remus said, sighing, “I’m sorry I can’t find a job.”
Sirius snorted and pecked Remus on the cheek. “You’re still looking, though, you’re not bumming off of me. Besides, couples SHARE incomes.”
With a grin he went into his work building.
Suddenly Remus got an idea. Sirius was so good to him, that he’d sell his good robes and buy a chain for Sirius’ necklace as a Christmas gift.
He ran off to do so.

That night, Sirius came home from work with a box.
“Siri! I got your Christmas present!” Remus said.
“Moony, I got yours, too…” Sirius laughed.
Remus thrust a box at Sirius to open first. He opened the box and pulled out the chain for his necklace.
His face fell.
“Remus, I sold my necklace to buy you your gift. Open it.”
Remus sadly opened the box. Inside were the buttons for his good robes.
“I sold my good robes to buy your chain!” he laughed.
Sirius began to laugh too, and soon, they were laying on the kitchen floor sobbing with laughter and kissing.
“I love your gift,” Sirius said at last.
“And I love yours,” Remus replied.
They kissed softly and knew the real gifts they had received.
